Unable to communicate with WP7603-1

I received a mangOH Red with the WP8548, but swapped it out to a WP7603-1.

I was able to successfully build/communicate with the WP85, but now I can no longer do so with the WP76.

Going through the Getting Started tutorial, I cannot even ping my device.

What I am wondering is, is the IP still the same (192.168.2.2)? I cannot seem to find anything in documentation to confirm. Or do I have to reconfigure the DIP switches? I am still using the CF3 USB same as I was successfully using the WP85.

As an update, to give everyone a better idea of some troubleshooting that occured.

When I first received the board, I was told to swap out the module. I did so.

What I did not realize was the sizeable different in thickness between the WP7603 and the WP8548. When I placed the cover back on, I did not realize how loose the cover was, so I couldn’t even keep the board powered.

That is when I went through setting up the WP85, which seemed to work fine. Now that I have switched back, is it possible my module got damaged from having bad/inconsistent contacts?

Would appreciate thoughts from others who have seen this issue.

Hi, you could try with the WP8548 again, if it is OK you can adjust the cover a litte bit to fit with the wp7603 which is more thinner than the wp8548. I am using the wp8548 cover with the wp7607 and it works fine.

I just swapped them over again, to confirm everything is still fine with the WP8548. I was able to reach that module fine.

Concerning the cover, that is what I am doing. I just bend the arms a bit so that it holds the device more securely.

I also went ahead and powered the board via the console, the watched the module try to boot. It was reading out, although I do not understand much of what it was saying.

I am just trying to figure out if everything is fine with the module. I assume I am probably doing something incorrectly, and don’t have the right address, etc.

The wp76 and wp77 are a thinner module than the wp85 and wp75 and thus they use a different module cover.

Thanks @dfrey, I wondered about that. Unfortunately I did see that in any documentation, nor was I recommended/supplied anything differently from the supplier.

That said, is their any explanation for the unresponsiveness of the module? Or is there something else I can do to verify integrity/function?

I read another topic here, and the OP described a problem with a 7603 where they suspect it may not have self assigned an IP. Is this possible?

Try connecting the console USB port and then run something like teraterm (windows) or minicom (linux) to view the console output. Check if there are any errors shown in the console.

@dfrey Thats what I did in the above post. There were some reported issues, but I am not familiar enough to know exactly what will be fatal.

I do see the first few lines state “kernel will fail to boot.” Several other times it looks like something failed.

Is there a way I can reload anything?

As an update, I was able to fix the ping issue.

I was advised to try the WIndows 1-click updater since something must have been wrong with my ECM interface.

This was able to reach the device and bring it up to Release 8. I can now reach the device with the default IP (192.168.2.2).

Looks like I will now be able to try the rest of the Getting Started. I appreciate everyone’s help on the issue!

I am having the same issue when swapping out the WP8548 for an HL chip. I swap the chips out , change pins 4 and 8 on the dip switch but I don’t see the power LED come on and no communication obviously. But I will try to make sure the chip is seated properly in the socket.
