LTE Connection from Switzerland

Hi there,

as I have written in another post that I am trying to measure the current consumption of the mangOH red as a gateway between Bluetooth and LTE. For this I have followed the tutorial and try to get the mangOH Red to use its LTE transmitter. My success was mixed.
I am stationed in Switzerland therefore I am using the WP7502 and the SIM card which was supplied with the mangOH Red. There is some connectivity:

root@swi-mdm9x15:~# cm sim info
Type: EXTERNAL_SLOT_1
ICCID: 89332401000004678476
Home Network Operator: Orange F
IMSI: 208011500411353
Phone Number:
root@swi-mdm9x15:~# cm radio
Power: ON
Current Network Operator: Salt
RAT: LTE network (LE_MRC_RAT_LTE)
Status: Not registered but currently searching for a new operator (LE_MRC_REG_SEARCHING)
Signal: Strong signal strength (4)
PS: Packet Switched Not registered (LE_MRC_REG_NONE)

But the network won’t let me connect and I don’t get my data into the cloud with the redSensorToCloud app.

  • Does the supplied SIM card not work in Switzerland?
  • When is the current draw of the mangOH Red the highest?
  • Do the main current spikes already occur during the initial connection phase or would I have to be connected to the mobile network already to judge the maximum current consumption?

Cheers,
obo

Hi Obo,

I had the same problem with the SIM card which was supplied by Sierra. I tried with a SIM card that I was sure is working in my country, and the mangOH succeeds to register to a network.

You should try with another SIM card, or put the supplied SIM card on a phone to see if it cans register. From that you will see where your problem comes from.

I have a similar problem.

I try to connect through the sim card using:

cm radio on

For five or ten seconds if I use # cm radio I get the following information:

root@swi-mdm9x15:~# cm radio
Power: ON
_Current Network Operator: _
Status: Not registered but currently searching for a new operator (LE_MRC_REG_SEARCHING)
Signal: No signal strength (0)
PS: Packet Switched Unknown state (LE_MRC_REG_UNKNOWN)

After ten seconds this:

root@swi-mdm9x15:~# cm radio
Power: ON
_Current Network Operator: _
Status: Not registered and not currently searching for new operator (LE_MRC_REG_NONE)
Signal: No signal strength (0)
PS: Packet Switched Unknown state (LE_MRC_REG_UNKNOWN)

The information using # cm sim info is as follows:

root@swi-mdm9x15:~# cm sim info
Type: EXTERNAL_SLOT_1
ICCID: 89332401000004548174
Home Network Operator: I TIM
IMSI: 222013094586840
Phone Number:

I have tested with the sim card that comes with the mangOH network kit checking before on the cell phone that took coverage, also with my own cell phone and also with another more …

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance! … …/ Melchor Sanz

It seems that the SIM card really doesn’t work in Switzerland. I have tried another one which has worked (except for a number of warnings on the airvantage cloud, among them one message that they don’t recognize their own firmware version).
@mss I had a similar problem, does your sim card need a pin. If so, have you tried to set the PIN number using:
cm sim enterpin <pin>
This worked for me.

But I am still working on a good current draw measurement without a computer connected…
