I’ve been posting recently about my efforts to get the WP85 board working with the mirage board with no success. Right now, the green and mirage board are out of my hands, so I am trying to build the built-in MT-7697 WiFi modules and get them working for the WP7603 on the Mangoh Red.
The first issue of a few that I have run into is ssh’ing in to the WP76 from my linux box. I’m able to SSH into the green and red running the wp85 fine, but I can only access the WP76 from my mac side. From my virtualbox, I select the proper USB device as I do with the WP85. I can see the device in lsusb:
Bus 001 Device 074: ID 1199:68c0 Sierra Wireless, Inc.
But it doesn’t show up as a network interface. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?
It doesn’t work on linux machines either, just tried a RHEL 7 and Ubuntu machine, neither running in virtual boxes. lsusb will show a similar printout with the Sierra Wireless board, but there is no network interface.
I just updated the WP7603 to firmware version 8, and the connection process made it further. Now, an interface is available after the device connects, but there are no ip addresses assigned:
and then wrote a script to attempt to ping every downstream ip attached to that interface, and none were successful. So the device is not correctly configuring its ip address it seems.
The dipswitches are set to 1,3,5, and 8 as it says in the mangoh red docs.
I tried the above on both a 16.04 and a fresh install 14.04. On the 14.04, a message popped up with an option to “enable mobile broadband connection” without giving us an ip address. So the VM was thinking that the WP76 was a modem for giving itself network connectivity.
Do these error tell you anything useful about what the issue could be?
Hopefully you have already solved this issue but for the benefit of anyone else who encounters it, I believe it may be that you still need to remove the Modem Manger utility on your linux installation.
If this is the issue, the WP76XX should be available for a sort while before Modem Manager highjacks it leaving it connected but unavailable to ping or ssh
