Do you know if they are a simple way to bridge a physical serial port with a TCP or UDP socket?

I found a StackOverflow post that describes exposing a UART over TCP using socat. socat isn’t part of the Linux image that is shipped with WP modules, but I think it could be enabled in the Yocto build based on this recipe listing for socat.
