HL7800-M which mangOH?

Which is the right mangOH for the HL7800-M ?

We are now providing HL7800-M mangOH Red kits. You can order them here:

We are providing a getting started guide here

Hi,
is it possible to use the HL7800 and mangOH red without the renneval IOT UART expander.

there are USB ports on board and maybe you can link the uart from the HL to the CONSOLE USB port via the DIP switches?

The HL78xx Getting started Guide states “CONSOLE USB is used for power, and enumerates a serial COM port, however the port is not usable.”

I have tried plugging into the other USB port, but it will not enumerate.

There is UART access on pins 12 and 13 of the IO header. A schematic is available here: https://mangoh.io/mangoh-red-resources-hardware

Did you get the hl78 mangoh red kit from Digikey?

I did order through Digi-Key.

Part # 1788-1026-ND: https://www.digikey.com/products/en?mpart=MANGOHRED_HL7800&v=1788

It arrived with the correct module (HL7800).

OK. We bought a kit from Digikey and tested that it was ok. We will replicate that part again.
Did you see the two com ports initialize?

Yes, I do see two ports. One port constantly sends me a message about autoboot (USB COM).

The other port does nothing (IoT card). Nothing is ever echoed back to me. The Rx LED light up on the IoT card when I type characters in the terminal.

Why would Digi-Key be a factor in this? Are the bad boards sent to Newark?

Nothing to do with Newark.

Anyways, I retried it on the HL78 mangOH Red I have and it worked as expected.

Can you share a few screen captures of your issue?

Certainly. There are actually 3 com ports I have attempted to communicate with.

(1) The COM port through the IoT card and DB9 port never echos anything. I expect this COM port to work with at commands. There is no value in an empty screen capture.

(2) The COM port featured in the left of the screen capture is the autoboot message I receive through the CONSOLE USB. I do not expect this COM port to work. The countdown reaches 0 and repeats the message. Pressing ‘r’ or ‘e’ as indicated by the autoboot message speeds up the countdown.

(3) The COM port featured in the right of the screen capture is UART 0 on the IO header pins 8 and 10. I can only see characters echoed right at the start of the autoboot message. Hence the “at” command is entered by pressing ‘a’ in one loop, ‘t’ in another loop, and finally the return key in a third loop. I suspect the ‘at’ command did not reach the module in one piece and therefore gave an ERROR response. You can see the effect of holding down the ‘r’ key at the end.

Most probably you got shipped a defective unit.
could you please type ati on UART0? This will confirm whether the HL78 is booted up properly or not.

Unfortunately, I cannot sneak in an entire at command in one auto boot sequence. The return/enter character has to be entered on the next autoboot, and this always returns “ERROR”.

Suppose this is defective, would you be able to replace it with a mangOH Yellow? I have been told the red is not a good fit, and the yellow is made to work well with the HL7800. This is second hand knowledge. Please correct my understanding if needed

Where could I buy the spacer for HL7800, I bought the basic version which we use for another modem as well?
