@nick For the flash, if you use the WiFi and Bluetooth stack you need it. If you are just using WiFi, then you dont. In that case, you might as well get the MT7687.
By DTR, you mean CTS? I dont see why you will need the DTR pin and not use CTS. Would be interesting to try out the solution you suggest.
